 History

As far as history is concerned about the past history of Savings Bank, Reverend Henry Duncan, who was born as the father of Savings Bank, established a prakram savings bank in a church in Scotland in 1810. National Savings Organization officially emerged in England to persuade the small savings of small sardars in 65 years before World War I. After the World War, the national savings organization contributed significantly to the national economy of England. In order to inspire people to save and control the inflation caused by World War II, the 'National Savings Organization' first started under the Ministry of Finance in India in 1944 in the subcontinent. The head office of the company was located in Simla, India.

In 1947, after the partition of India, the national savings program was transferred under the Ministry of Finance. After Bangladesh became independent through bloody struggle, National Savings Directorate was established in 1972 by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
